Holiday Events in and Around Costa Mesa

Costa Mesa

We can guarantee very few things in life, but one of them is that we will probably not be shoveling snow out of our collective driveways on Christmas Day here in Southern California. So while we are not singing songs around a roaring campfire at an inn in Vermont, we do have a wide variety of holiday events for you, your friends, and family between now and New Year’s Day to make you merry and bright.

A Christmas Carol at the South Coast Repertory

It was Charles Dickens’ most classic tale: “A Christmas Carol.” The Ghost of Christmas Past will delight you with his tale of Ebeneezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and the Cratchit family. You will be transported back in time by the South Coast Repertory Company. One thing to keep in mind if you are going to “A Christmas Carol” is that children under the age of 6 will not be admitted to the show because it contains smoke and fog effects. So hire a babysitter for the young ones, and come enjoy a Christmas classic.

The OC Marketplace

Now,who doesn’t like a good old-fashioned swap meet? While this may not be a holiday event in the strictest sense of the term, great food is! So if you are you looking for food, funky furniture, and fun, the Orange County Marketplace is the place to gather on Saturdays and Sundays from 7am-4pm. Here you can find fresh produce, a hot bagel, custom-built furniture, sometimes you’ll hear live bands… pretty much anything your heart may desire. It’s $2 for general admission to the OC Marketplace, but parking is free. To find your next ‘have to have it’ deal, drive to the OC Fair & Event Center and enter Gates 1, 2 or 10.

SOCO Farmers’ Market

Let’s stay with the local markets for a minute. The SOCO Farmer’s Market runs every Saturday from 9am-2pm. This is real farm-to-your-table fare, with fresh produce, eggs, juices, local meats, fresh warm bread, sauces, nuts, dips and live music. What else could you possibly want? Are you getting hungry just thinking about it? Your support helps local small businesses thrive, and it is a great outing for your family.

Creative Saturdays at Chuck Jones

From 9:30 am until noon most Saturdays, it is time for creativity at the Chuck Jones Center. You can just walk in and enjoy the center and express yourself by drawing or using other available media. Children must be accompanied by an adult. It costs nothing to enter, but a donation is suggested to help cover the cost of all those creative materials. Click the link above and check out their calendar to make sure your creative Saturday is available!

Gershwin’s Concerto

How about enjoying a live classical music performance? Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F is considered his most classical piece. It will be performed at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.
